MMA Legend Reveals Who Is Going to Be the Next Double Champ at the UFC, and It’s Not Israel Adesanya or Kamaru Usman

Becoming a UFC champion is a mammoth task, but some fighters have conquered one weight class, crossed over to another division, and become champions there as well. This is a rare club that has only a handful of members. As not all UFC champions get the opportunity to compete for a second belt, it is a highly prestigious accolade.

Chael Sonnen shared his opinion on who he feels will join this elite list, but omitted Israel Adesanya. In an interview with ‘The Schmo’, Sonnen talked about whom he thinks will hold two UFC belts soon.

Sonnen offered, “Well, again, I’m not ready to write off Adesanya. I know that he was the closest just because he got the opportunity. But I do think that Chimaev’s got some really hard work in front of him. But he is. He is probably the guy if you are only giving me one option. He’s probably the guy, most likely.”

It was interesting to see ‘The Bad Guy’ pick a fighter who is yet to fight a top 10 contender in the UFC.

However, Chimaev has looked great in all of his fights in the UFC thus far. Also, the fact that ‘Borz‘ has competed in both the welterweight and middleweight divisions backs Sonnen’s argument.

Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya are in Khamzat Chimaev’s way

Since his debut, Khamzat Chimaev has been one of the hottest names in the UFC. However, as the young prospect has only had four UFC fights, there is a lot of uncertainty attached to him.

Chimaev, who has faced no adversity inside the octagon, has out-wrestled and out-struck his opponents with relative ease. With his next fight being against one of the most well-rounded fighters in the welterweight division, ‘Borz’ may face his first real challenge inside the octagon.

With stories of ‘Borz’ giving light heavyweight fighters a run for their money, Sonnen might be spot on with his prediction. However, dethroning UFC’s middleweight king, Israel Adesanya, and pound-for-pound king, Kamaru Usman, will be a humongous task for the newcomer.
