An Untold Story Echoing the Greatness of Tiger Woods

Ever since his PGA Tour debut in 1996, Tiger Woods has worked his way to the top. The 46-year-old is regarded as one of the greatest players in history and was recently inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. Of course, over the course of 20-plus years, there’s no shortage of memorable Woods moments.

That being said, Woods’ skills and performances have inspired generations of golfers. Sometimes, even his friends or colleagues have been blown away by his prowess on the court.

During an interview with Golf Digest, Darren Clarke shared one such interesting Woods story.

Darren Clarke shares an impressive Tiger Woods story

Looking back at his long career, it’s no surprise that Woods has practiced and played with numerous other players. Darren Clarke, 53, has been one of those golfers.

While speaking to Golf Digest, Clarke revealed his most-impressive Woods story – that dates back to the early 2000s. The two were on the range, with usual banter being exchanged. Eventually, the 14-time European Tour winner realized what was going on.

“I hadn’t seen anything like it, and I haven’t seen anything as good since,” he said. “Every shot Tiger hit was perfect. He must have hit about 200—all pure”.

Clarke waited till Woods was done before satisfying his curiosity. “There wasn’t a bit of brown earth to be seen,” Clarkes added. The 2011 Open Champion further added that there was no ‘hint of a divot’, and the grass was lightly frushed in one direction.

For Clarke, that was unbelievable. The 15-time major winner had used almost every club in his bag and had pulled off something impossible. “It remains the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen. Ridiculous”. 

Furthermore, others like Brandel Chamblee, Michael Campbell, Bay Hill locker-room attendant Rick Roberts, John Cook, and Davis Love III also shared some untold Woods stories. Additionally, Clarke and Woods have played against each other – and are known to be friends off the course.

In fact, some of their iconic moments are from their Ryder Cup clashes.

When will Woods play next?

Following his car crash last February, Woods played the PNC Championship with his son. However, the 82-time PGA Tour winner is not yet back. Unfortunately, there is also no timetable for his return.

With his last win being the 2019 Zozo Championship, one can only hope for a speedy and complete recovery on Woods’ end.
