Instagram is making it easier to snoop on what your friends are liking with handy new feature

INSTAGRAM could be planning to bring back a way to see what your friends like on the platform.

The social network dramatically removed the following activity tab in 2019 amid concerns it was being used to snoop on people.

But a screenshot revealed by prolific leaker Alessandro Paluzzi suggests the app could be working on a new way to see what others are up to.

Apparently, a “liked by friends” feature will appear on the Explore section.

As ever with leaks, it still appears to be in the development stages and Instagram bosses may well decide not to go ahead with it.

Nevertheless, some will be worried how such an option could be exploited by stalkers.

Commenters on Twitter think Instagram might allow users to disable it to allay fears.

“I’m almost sure they will let users disable it,” one guessed.

“They better do,” another replied.

“Coming back full circle from the creepy activity section they removed?” a third said.

Vishal Shah – who was Instagram’s head of product in 2019 – told Buzzfeed News at the time that the feature’s removal was not due to privacy or safety.

It was apparently scrapped to simplify things and because not enough people knew it existed.

“People didn’t always know that their activity is surfacing,” he said.

“So you have a case where it’s not serving the use case you built if for, but it’s also causing people to be surprised when their activity is showing up.”
