Elon Musk’s Starlink internet speeds revealed – is it quicker than YOUR broadband?

ELON Musk’s Starlink internet satellites might be delivering faster download speeds than your home internet.

The richest man in the world is reimagining the way we access the web with Starlink – and its true internet speeds have now been revealed.

Once a Starlink satellite dish is installed in a space with an unobstructed view of the sky the home is connected to the network

Starlink operates at its fastest on the coasts but even in lower performing areas it may be the best choice

Starlink, a subdivision of SpaceX, uses its network of roughly 2,000 satellites to deliver internet connection to customers in remote locations where access to fiber optic cables is limited.

Internet speeds are measured in megabits per second or Mbps. The average speed in the US is roughly 100 Mbps–but connection in tech hubs like California (110Mbps) and Texas (110.7 Mbps) greatly outpace rural areas (54.4 Mbps in Montana).

The median Starlink speed was measured at the solid pace of almost 105 Mbps.

Many internet providers use satellites positioned about 22,000 miles from Earth.

Starlink’s satellites differ from traditional internet providers’ satellites because they are much closer to Earth’s surface.

Just 300 miles from the ground, Starlink satellites have drawn the ire of astronomers and stargazers.

The company hopes to load Earth’s orbit with over 40,000 satellites–nearly ten times the total of currently active satellites.

Starlink eventually vowed to camouflage new additions to the constellation but Earth’s lower orbit is already cluttered.

Musk’s satellites have triggered evasive maneuvers in other satellites to avoid collisions and are responsible for roughly half of all instances where two spacecraft are less than 0.6miles from one another.

A Starlink Kit will come at the cost of $99 per month and $499 for the hardware.

Between challenging Putin to a fight, revolutionizing space travel, splitting from his celebrity girlfriend and serving as the CEO of two multi-billion dollar companies, it’s hard to imagine Elon Musk has time to alter the way we get our internet.

But, it seems, he does.

When Ukraine’s Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine tweeted that the nation needed connection while under siege, Musk delivered.
