Amanda Seyfried has revealed that her mother broke the news to her about her career-defining Oscar nomination.

The actress admitted that she didn’t find out she had landed her first-ever Academy Award nod until her mum Ann excitedly called her to let her know.

Acknowledged for her portrayal of Marion Davies in David Fincher’s biographical drama Mank, the 35-year-old explained that she didn’t watch the announcement live and relied on her mother instead of her publicist to ‘tell her something for a change’.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Amanda said: It’s always been my mom and me, like my whole career. So I’m gonna let her tell me the good news or bad news.

‘And so, I didn’t put my ringer on, and I was like, “If I fall asleep. Great. Then she can wake me up with it.” And she did! She woke me up with the news.’

Amanda, who shares Nina, three, and Thomas, six months, with husband Thomas Sadoski, added that it was a ‘beautiful way to find out’ and that her nomination ‘deepened her clarity’ on having chosen acting as a career.

‘It’s a big turning point for me in my career to be a part of something that’s so recognised and for my own singular performance to be recognised,’ she added.

Amanda’s has won widespread award season love for her role in the biographical drama Mank, which centres around Herman J. Mankiewicz and how he penned Citizen Kane’s screenplay.

The movie scooped a total of 10 Oscar nominations, including best picture, best director for David Fincher and best actor for Gary Oldman.

Amanda soared to fame as ditzy blonde Karen in the popular 2004 teen comedy, Mean Girls.

She has since carved out an impressive career for herself with roles in Mamma Mia!, Dear John and Les Misérables.

Amanda will next be seen in the horror Things Heard & Seen and the drama A Mouthful of Air – both set for release later this year.
