Paul Gascoigne is one of the big names on the Italian series of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! this year, and he’s already a winner in our eyes after attempting to speak the local language.

Paul is no stranger to the country having played for Lazio in the 90s and lit up the Italia 90 World Cup, but it’s safe to say he’s not a fluent speaker.

Introducing himself ahead of the country’s version of the reality show – named L’Isola dei Famosi – Paul struggled to get to grips with the dialect.

When asked how good his Italian was by host Ilary Blasi, he said in English: ‘It’s OK. It’s only the first day, I’m hoping to improve it.’

‘I’m not speaking perfect Italian,’ he added, before launching into a strange sentence in the language, which involved him repeating the word for ‘snakes’.

‘Serpente’ he said, before saying in Italian: ‘Fishing good me, very good me.’

He added: ‘Hands fish my, team hungry me. Confidence, first day, better speak, soon.’

We’ll take your word for it Paul.

The footballing legend was shooting introductory scenes for the series, with production believed to be taking place on the remote desert island of Cayos Cochinos, Honduras.

He added in English: ‘I’m here for a laugh and the experience. I’ll see you all on the f*****g island’.

Shortly after filming the video, Paul jumped from a helicopter before taking his place in camp.

He already looks to have made a big impression, after dancing on the first episode without understanding much of what was being said around him.

Paul is appearing on the Italian series after previously claiming that he was banned from appearing on the UK’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! after he failed a psych test.

If Paul had entered the jungle in 2009, he would have been joined by the likes of Katie Price, Kim Woodburn and Jimmy White.
