MasterChef’s Gregg Wallace deals withering blow to contestant for cardinal cooking sin

MASTERCHEF’S viewers were left horrified after a chef served raw pork on the show – and the judges refused to eat it.

The BBC cooking show sees amateur chefs go head-to-head in the hopes of impressing the notoriously tough judges Gregg Wallace and John Torodes.

The disappointing meal was prepared by contestant Ally as he battled for a place in the BBC show’s quarter-final.

On Wednesday’s instalment, Ally choice of meat was pan roasted pork tenderloin with a cinnamon crust, butternut squash fondant, sweet potato puree, cavolo nero and mango salsa.

Gregg praised him or the flavour of cinnamon around the outside of the pork – but then pointed out that the 28-year-old solicitor had made a huge cooking blunder by serving him raw pork.

Gregg went onto slam the contestant saying he would “send it back” if the dish had been served to him in a restaurant.

Showing a close-up of the pink meat inside, he said: “But, that pork is far too rare for me and I would send it back.”

Gregg was also disappointed that the sweet potato puree was too overpowering.

“That’s enough sweetness going on there for me,” Gregg continued: “The salsa as well, we’ve now got mango sweetness.”

“It’s getting too sweet, even for me,” he told the contestant.

Meanwhile, co-judge John was having the opposite problem, saying that his section of the pork was overcooked.

“Gregg’s pork is underdone, my pork is overdone,” John remarked.

“Because I’ve got one end which is thinner, Gregg’s got the fat end, and it means we’ve got this pork cooked in very different ways.

“Your fondant, I think it is delicious but as a plate, it’s way too sweet for me,” John told the Edinburgh lad.

The contestant admitted the criticism had knocked him a bit but was hoping to come back stronger.

He told viewers: “Ah, [feeling] slightly deflated.

“A couple of little mistakes, some divided opinions about bits and pieces on the dish, but just some tweaking here and there.

“But, you know, that’s MasterChef for you, so yeah.”

Viewers could not believe it that the contestant had committed a MasterChef cardinal sin.

One wrote: “Poor Ally, gutted he didn’t check his pork. He was doing so well. #MasterChef”

Another posted: “Why do chefs keep serving raw meat? I just don’t get it? #MasterChef”

“#MasterChef Ally cooking raw pork for Gregg but overcooked for John, you just can’t win.”

Ally wasn’t the only chef that served up an inedible dish – contestant Stephanie cooked roasted guineafowl legs with a honey glaze.

Gregg cut into the meat but immediately spotted that it was raw.

He exclaimed: “Oh, no no no!

“As you can clearly see, I’m sorry Stephanie, it’s not cooked enough.”

Gregg showed the undercooked meat to the camera, leaving Stephanie very disappointed with her efforts.

Unfortunately, it was the end of the road for Stephanie who was voted off by the judges.

She admitted that she was “disappointed” to be leaving but said she had “expected it”.
