The Split fans left fuming as BBC gives away major spoiler

THE Split finally returned to our screens on Monday night – but fans were left fuming after a major spoiler was given away at the end of the episode.

At the end of the first episode, viewers learn that James Cutler has been hit by a car whilst riding his bike, and the whole family rushes to the hospital.

Unfortunately, the doctor appears and delivers the terrible news that he has died, with Rose breaking down as Nina, Hannah and her mother Ruth support her.

Over the course of the show, we watched as Rose had a slight wobble about marrying James before going through with the wedding at the end of the first season.

The third instalment began with Rose and James discussing their desire to have children, with Rose unsure about adopting after learning that the couple were incapable of conceiving by themselves.

As the two are about to head to an adoption centre, they begin arguing over Rose’s reluctance to explore the adoption route and James angrily cycles off.

While Rose leaves her husband a voicemail apologising, telling him that she does want to adopt with him, he never has a chance to hear the message.

Despite the sad scenes, fans were more peeved at the fact that a huge storyline was revealed at the end of the episode.

Taking to Twitter, one person penned: “Nicola Walker as sublime as ever. But way to go BBC spoiling the reason for Lenny’s divorce.”

Echoing their comments, someone else said: “Was there really any need for the BBC to tease the reason behind Lenny’s divorce?”

While a third added: “The BBC really need to stop with teasing the next episode.”

Others were delighted to see the drama back on their screens after a two-year hiatus.

“Anything with Nicola Walker in is so emotional,” said one, before adding: “Such a brilliant actress – and even better to have The Split back.”

All episodes of the third series of The Split will be made available on BBC iPlayer in one go.

For those who want to watch the new series at their own pace, all six episodes will be added to BBC iPlayer following the BBC One broadcast of episode 1 on April 4.

That means fans who can’t wait to know how everything plays out can binge through all six episodes at once.
