Warning: spoilers ahead for episode one of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

An Easter Egg in episode one of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier on Disney Plus could hint that War Machine (Don Cheadle) is set to have a more significant role to play in the series than fans might have thought.

In the season premiere of Marvel’s The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, MCU superheroes Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) and James ‘Bucky’ Barnes (Sebastian Stan) are on their own separate paths, with Sam working with the Air Force and spending time with his family and Bucky on a journey to redemption.

While Sam starts to learn a little bit about the trouble anti-patriotism group Flag-Smashers are brewing, Bucky is going to therapy, having been pardoned for his past criminal acts as the Winter Soldier.

After viewers are introduced to Bucky’s no-nonsense shrink, it’s revealed that the former Second World War soldier is keeping a notebook with names of people who he needs to make amends to – or for.

One of the names on the list – which fans may spot in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment – is ‘L Kaminski’.

While this could refer to many people, or may just be a completely random name chosen out of thin air, we reckon there’s a strong chance this name is in reference to comic book writer Len Kaminski.

Len, along with comic artist Ken Hopgood, co-created the War Machine armour in the Marvel comics for the pre-existing character James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes.

This could therefore mean that Rhodey may have a larger part to play in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier than fans have been led to believe.

Rhodey appears in the season premiere, questioning Sam after the Falcon decides to hand Captain America’s shield back to the Smithsonian Museum, considering Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) gave it to him directly at the end of Avengers: Endgame.

Iron Man’s former right hand man tells Sam that he’ll be in touch – but when they’ll next meet is yet to be determined.

Sam’s speech at the Smithsonian about Captain America is a moving nod to his debut in the MCU, when he meets Steve for the first time in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Following their run in Washington DC, Sam and Cap are greeted by Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, who says in reference to Steve: ‘Either one of you know where the Smithsonian is? I’m here to pick up a fossil.’

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier releases new episodes on Fridays on Disney Plus.
