“He Disappeared Into the Crowd”- Tony Hawk Recalls the Bizarre Moment When a Fan Ran Away With His Board While He Was Performing

There are hardly a few people who share fascinating stories like Tony Hawk. He competed at different venues and attracted live audiences. With the presence of large crowds, there are many stories of Hawk that etch into our minds. One of those stories that came into the limelight is the time when his skateboard got stolen.

While performing on a tour, Hawk revealed a guy who stole his skateboard during his performance. With a large crowd in attendance, Hawk saw the person running away with his skateboard. In an interview with Jason Ellis, he opened up on the exact details of the heist.

Hawk explained the whole situation back then. During a tour, he recollected how the fence was raised up around the vertical ramp. While performing a trick on a tour, his board shot up into the crowd and he saw a person grabbing the board. After that, he ran away with the skateboard while Hawk stood there wonder-struck. He talked about the events that unfolded during that day.

“There was another time at that same tour, different city, same thing. Ramp’s raised up and they have a fence around the perimeter. I did something. My board shot off up on the transition into the crowd. This dude caught, looks around, he’s gone! He disappeared into the crowd like it was like a bad movie. I’m still on the ramp. I didn’t even get to the ground yet and my board is gone into a sea of people and I was like, Dude!” said Hawk.

Hawk was still on the ramp while the person ran away with his skateboard.

How did he perform after that?

As the demo was nearing the end, Hawk talked about borrowing another board to complete his trick. He replaced it with another skateboard and carried on with the show. Hawk performs different tours across the world to promote skateboarding. He has die-hard skateboarding fans all around the world. Hence, this was one interesting story to come out of his fabled tales.

Currently, he is injured with a broken femur. Even at the age of 53, his passion for trying out something new prevails. He continues to be an influential spokesperson for the sport, attracting large crowds to his events.
