‘Incredibly Grateful and Fortunate’ – Caroline Wozniacki Details Resilient Battle With Rheumatoid Arthritis

On April 5, former World No.1, Caroline Wozniacki said goodbye to tennis for one last time. In her final match, she played 3-time Grand Slam champion and a great friend, Angelique Kerber on her home soil. After the match, the 2018 Australian Open winner thanked all of her fans for an incredible reception. Recently, she spoke about her last match and her rare disease in a social media post.

Caroline Wozniacki talks about her disease after her final match

In the latest Instagram post, Caroline Wozniacki talked about how grateful she was for playing the game of tennis despite suffering from a rare disease called Rheumatoid Arthritis. It’s a disease that causes pain and swelling in our bones and joints. In 2018, she was diagnosed with this disease. Earlier, on Instagram, she talked about it, as she felt nostalgic about coming back to the tennis court.

“Playing in my final tennis match last week was nostalgic. I’m incredibly grateful and fortunate enough to live out my dreams despite living with RA. If you want to learn more about my story, I encourage you to visit AdvantageHers.com.,” the Danish player wrote on Instagram. 

Notably, after the Australian Open triumph in 2018, she later found out about her Rheumatoid Arthritis. Since then, she has been helping others suffering from the same disease. 

Wozniacki wins her final match against Angelique Kerber

Earlier, the Danish player played her final match at the Royal Arena in front of a packed stadium in Copenhagen, Denmark. In that match, Wozniacki showed that she didn’t lose a single step, as she beat Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-4 in straights sets. 

After the match, she tweeted a video of her amazing victory and wrote, “Wow! There are no words to describe Tuesday night! Thank you to everyone who came out to support, it meant so much to me! The atmosphere was absolutely incredible!! Also thank you to @AngeliqueKerber for a great match!”

Notably, this was her first match in over two years, as she announced her retirement after playing the Australian Open in 2020. Her only Grand Slam title victory came in Australia when she won Down Under in 2018.
