The Vikings’ quarterback talked to the Minneapolis Star Tribune for the very first time after signing a one-year contract extension. He tried to support opening up more cap room so that he could put together a squad that they can satisfy with. Cousins also believes this was an approach to generate a win-win outcome, that will eventually result in many victories this fall.

Moreover, he discloses to the press that his goals with the Vikings go beyond; He wishes to retire wearing the purple and gold jersey.

He further mentions, “My mindset was really to be a Viking. I would like to retire as a Viking, and so I would like to play my way into that if you will. I know I’ve got to earn the right to do that.”

Cousins will make $40 million in 2022 as well as $30 million in 2023, according to ESPN. He will also earn $50 million of the $70 million by mid-March 2023, with the rest being guaranteed. He will receive nearly $231.7 million throughout his career by the end of his 2023 campaign.
