Speaking to Insider, the former hoarding technician gave detailed instructions on how to get common stains out of your home’s carpet and wood floors.
RUBBING ALCOHOL AND WHITE WINE FOR CARPET STAINS
Mills recommended Shout Stain Removers for carpet stains such as markers or paint. Outside of this, a more affordable solution is rubbing alcohol.
And when it comes to the dreaded moment that you spill red wine all over your light-colored carpet, no worries. According to Mills, you can actually use white wine to get rid of stubborn red wine stains.
According to Bobvila.com, white wine works like cold water to dilute the concentration of red wine.

MINERAL OIL FOR WATER STAINS ON WOOD FLOORS
Lemon or mineral oil will work well for light water stains.
Light water stains are water damage that only affects the wood’s finish or surface layer.
On the other hand, dark water stains occur when light water stains are overlooked and end up seeping deeper into the wood, which can result in mold.
For light water stains, Mills suggested rubbing mineral oil or lemon oil into them.

“If the wood is faded from age and high traffic, then sand, buff, and refinish is best,” she noted.
TABLE SALT FOR WOOD FLOOR STAINS
To get pesky stains out of wood floors, you’ll want to make a paste out of baking soda and table salt.
“Pour a generous amount of salt over the stain and let it sit for about 10 to 15 minutes. The salt will absorb a majority of the stain,” Mills said.
“Remove the salt and use baking soda mixed with lemon oil as a paste, then rub into the stain until it is gone.”
BAKING SODA AND OLIVE OIL FOR WOOD FLOOR SCRATCHES
“Deep scratches on wood floors is something I am personally dealing with due to my out-of-control giant puppy,” Mills stated.
She suggested applying baking soda and a little amount of olive oil onto the area of interest to remove the scratch.
