“He Wants Another Super Bowl”: Aaron Rodgers’ Super-Winning QB Coach Comes Out of Retirement For Specific Reason
Packers QB Aaron Rodgers has a tremendous influence on the Wisconsin-based franchise. Recent reports have only cemented that fact. The new Packers QB coach Tom Clements revealed it was Rodgers, who pulled him out of retirement. Clements joins the organization following the departure of former QB coach Luke Getsy to fill the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator vacancy.
It was the former Super Bowl champion who put in the effort to connect his old coach with head coach Matt LaFleur. Clements enjoyed a decade-long stint with the franchise from 2006 to 2016 and will come back for a second stint to work with Rodgers. The appointment of Clements took place before Rodgers signed his contract extension with the franchise.
While talking about his conversations with Rodgers, Clements states, “That was my first question to him, ‘What are you thinking?’. And we just talked about it and I felt good, fairly confident that he was coming back. The team and he have had some great years and still [have] a good chance to contend for the Super Bowl. I know that’s what he wants: He wants another Super Bowl. And that was one of the things that intrigued me also.”
Aaron Rodgers has a singular aim: The Vince Lombardi Trophy
Rodgers is bringing back a coach who took charge of a franchise in 2020 while working with the Arizona Cardinals. A comeback was never in Clements’ plans, but Rodgers and his goals have brought him back into the fold. The allure of winning the Super Bowl seems to have captured yet another victim, as Clements will look to aid Rodgers.
The 68-year-old’s priority will be to help the 4-time league MVP adjust to the departure of his talented WR Davante Adams.
Adams’ departure to the Raiders will be felt by Rodgers, but Clements believes the reigning league MVP will be fine without his No.1 passing outlet.
Clements’ addition will benefit the Packers, especially with the evolution of Rodgers’ game from his early years. Head coach LaFleur recruited Rich Bisaccia as the special teams coordinator following their shambolic performance in the last game of their season. Packers fans will hope that 2022 is the season their wait for a Super Bowl title finally ends.
