“Gilbert Landed More Strikes”- Joe Rogan Gives His Verdict on the Controversial Khamzat Chimaev-Gilbert Burns Unanimous Decision Fight

The ongoing discussion in the MMA community about one of the best UFC 273 bouts has sparked massive debates. One portion of the community firmly backs rising superstar Khamzat Chimaev, while the other half believes Brazilian mixed martial artist, Gilbert Burns got robbed.

The official statistics of the fight stated that the Burns landed more shots, and even Joe Rogan backs this notion.

In a recent conversation with UFC’s welterweight contender, Bobby Green in JRE MMA show #121, Rogan marveled at the performance, and how the fight stole the show.

He also felt thankful that UFC President Dana White gave both fighters the win bonus. Despite Burns coming up short, the Brazilian walked away with a bonus.

Rogan highlighted that Durinho actually landed powerful shots, strong enough to move Chimaev’s face around.

He said, “I mean that was an amazing performance. He spun Khamzat’s face around with that right hand like holy f*k, Khamzat has a f**g chin man, cause Glibert cracked him. Oh my goodness, what a fight, what a fight!”

Joe Rogan doesn’t agree with Gilbert Burns’s claim

The UFC icon also talked about Burn’s latest Instagram post, where he claimed to have landed more strikes against the Russian-born fighter. However, Rogan seemed to disagree with the notion, as he believes volume doesn’t necessarily translate to victory. He believes landing significant strikes that can earn you a knockdown carries far more value than getting more volume.

“Gilbert landed more strikes. Gilbert posted on his Instagram the numbers, the breakdown of the numbers. Which obviously doesn’t mean everything, because like a person could land, a person could land crazy shots, someone plants you with one. That one counts way more.”

In the end, Rogan backed Khamzat Chimaev and stated he indeed managed to land more powerful shots. The wolf’s aggression never dialed down, and he pushed the pace. Despite lacking in the significant strikes department, judges felt he took the lead in the third round and gave him the victory.
