NFL Legend Predicts Michael Jordan Could Be Responsible for Lamelo Ball Leaving Hornets: “A Lebron James, a Magic Johnson, a Hakeem Olajuwon”
After the second day of the Play-In Tournament, 4 teams remain to play for the 8th seed for the West and the East. Michael Jordan’s Hornets took on the Hawks for the battle of what will lead to the 8th seed. Atlanta beat the Hornets by long, 132-103. LaMelo Ball and Terry Rozier combined for just 47 points.
It was a hard time for the Hornets, though the roster is still young and talented. Whereas, Hawks’ role players stepped up for this big game. This does seem like progress for the Hornets, but it is not. The Hornets have been down as a team for a long time now.
Michael Jordan’s Hornets have been quite unsuccessful
The Hornets last made the playoffs in the 2016 postseason, where they couldn’t get past the first round. Before 2016, Charlotte was swept by the Heat in the 2014 postseason. Under Michael Jordan, the Hornets have never won a playoff series. And with the addition of future star players, it is not progressing for the Hornets, but a sign of future disaster.
If the team does not build a reliable roster around guys like LaMelo, Rozier, and Bridges, these players might consider leaving Charlotte. Shannon Sharpe is not sure how Michael Jordan is going to handle such a situation.

“… but you know in this league, you win with superstars. And right now, Melo seems to be cusp, but I’m not so sure, by the time Melo is a superstar, he’s not going to want to stay in Charlotte, he’s probably going to come back out this side of town (Hawks).”
Michael Jordan has to make smart moves in order to keep his players’ interest
It might be a misconception to some fans that a superstar player will try to lead the team to a championship every year. Though if the chemistry with players, coaches, and the roster adjustments are not suitable, the player might consider leaving. LeBron had a tough time in Cleveland, he did his best to lead the team to the Finals. But in the end, he had to switch so as to best utilize his talents.

“… but Skip, it’s just going to be hard for Mike to do this. I just don’t see how he does it unless he has the number one overall pick and it’s an alter… franchise-altering player. A LeBron James, a Magic Jonson, a Hakeem Olajuwon.”, said Shannon.
A rebuild or revamp starts with trades and draft picks and the Hornets are left with the Draft. There are not a lot of talented players that teams will consider trading for. The Hornets, though, do not have a high draft pick this year. It is definitely going to be a tough job for Michael Jordan and the Hornets’ front office.
