My sister has demanded I move my proposal date so she can get engaged first – even my mom agrees with her

A MAN’S soon-to-be-fiancée has shared that his family is pushing them to postpone their engagement so that his older sister can get engaged first.

The man, who is referenced to as John, has an older sister named Katie who apparently isn’t onboard with him getting engaged before her.

 “Katie has always been an overly competitive big sister and jealous of John’s easygoing and likable nature,” the girlfriend told Slate.com.

John and his girlfriend had already made plans to get engaged during an upcoming trip in May.

Once this was shared with Katie, she was apparently livid.

For Katie, John getting engaged before her was an example of him winning this imaginary competition they were in, John’s girlfriend claimed.

But Katie’s request for him to delay the proposal apparently didn’t seem unreasonable to John and Katie’s mother.

She reportedly called John to ask that he postpone the engagement so that Katie’s boyfriend, called Tom, had time to get Katie and his engagement together.

Katie was so focused on getting engaged first that she didn’t realize that the timing may not be best for taking the next step in her relationship, John’s girlfriend said.

“…even though this is bad timing for them as Tom just started a new job, they just moved, and they’re about to get a puppy that will require a lot of work,” John’s girlfriend shared in the article.

Regardless of that, Katie still wanted to get engaged first and John was hurt that his family would ask him to do such a thing.

When John refused, he was then asked to give Tom a step-by-step plan of when he was going to proposed so Tom could propose to Katie at least a day before John did.

John’s girlfriend even offered to delay her engagement announcement to appease Katie but she apparently wasn’t satisfied.

After asking for advice in the article, it was suggested that John should keep sticking up to his family when it comes to the engagement.

It was also recommended that setting boundaries now will benefit John and his future family later on.
