Natasha Lyonne says she and Fred Armisen have split after eight years due to differing opinions on a swimming pool

Natasha Lyonne has confirmed she and Fred Armisen have split, and says the reason for their break-up was not being able to come to an agreement over a swimming pool. 

The American Pie and Russian doll actress, 43, revealed that she and Saturday Night Live alum Fred, 55, had decided to break up after eight years together. 

And as far as break-ups go, their reason for ending things appears to be pretty unique. 

The Emmy nominee explained: ‘I had been there living with Fred and during Covid.

‘I honestly think we broke up because I wanted a swimming pool,’ the New York native joked to The Hollywood Reporter.

Natasha added: ‘We love each other just about as much as two people can love each other and we’re still talking all the time, but Freddy doesn’t like a swimming pool.

‘It might seem like a mundane reason for a breakup, but during that pandemic, you’ve got to get your laps – I’m like Burt Lancaster in The Swimmer. 

‘So, I got myself a house with a pool out in Los Angeles. So that’s the real scandal. I guess I finally am an actual bicoastal.’

Natasha, who also starred as Nicky Nichols on Orange Is The New Black, was last seen in public with Fred at the Golden Globes in 2020 before the coronavirus pandemic began. 

Her long-awaited second season of Russian doll is also set to debut on Netflix on Wednesday after being a couple of years in the making. 

Natasha plays Nadia Vulkov, who is stuck in a time loop but discovered at the end of season one that not only is time resetting for her, but people are also disappearing and the world is becoming less stable. 

According to Netflix’s synopsis, there’s a lot in store for season two: ‘This season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations.

‘At first, they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure, but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.’

Russian Doll season 2 arrives on Netflix April 20.
