Alejandro Davidovich Fokina is living his dream. The Spanish youngster had a memorable tournament in Monte Carlo, Monaco. Although he failed to clear the final hurdle against Stefanos Tsitsipas, it was nonetheless a breakthrough tournament for the 22-year-old.
The Spaniard entered the tournament on the back of some early exits in his previous tournaments. Before entering the Monte Carlo Masters, Fokina’s best result was a quarterfinal finish at the Qatar Open. However, he had a mighty impressive last week, causing some major upsets en route to the final.
Further, the Spaniard caused the upset of the tournament, when he defeated World Number 1, Novak Djokovic, in the second round at the Monte Carlo Masters. He maintained his impressive run to dig deep in the tournament. Riding onto his breakthrough performance at the recently concluded Monte Carlo Masters, Fokina has ascended 19 spots to rise to No. 27 in the latest ATP rankings. Recently, he spoke about his favorite player while growing up.

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina considers Roger Federer as his idol

During an interview, the Spanish star was asked whom he looked up to while growing up. He said, “Federer. That’s it. I want to talk with him one day because his personality was like, I think, more or less like mine. He was breaking everything like a mad every time and one day he changed his mind and he was playing like the best one.”

The Swiss maestro is not only one of the best players tennis has ever seen but also has inspired the next generation of players like Fokina to excel in the sport. Further, Federer has been giving some positive news regarding his come back to tennis. Recently, he shared a video where he was undergoing light training ahead of his potential comeback later this season.
