Bobby Wagner Refused Russell Wilson’s Offer to Join Him at Denver Broncos; Said ‘Heart Is In Seattle’ Before Franchise Eventually Axed Him
The Seattle Seahawks have made some big moves this offseason. They have not been sitting idly in the downtime. The franchise has traded away their superstar quarterback, Russell Wilson. It was a shocker for the Seahawks’ fans, as nobody wanted to see their favorite QB leave. Former Seattle linebacker Bobby Wagner recalls Wilson asking him to join the Broncos before he was released.
The Seahawks are doing some major team building this offseason. It seems like the fans may not even recognize the squad next season. They have traded away their offensive weapon and released a defensive weapon. But the franchise plans to use the gained picks to get some fresh faces from the draft this year.
The Seattle Seahawks release Bobby Wagner
The Seattle Seahawks released Bobby Wagner a few days ago. Nobody expected them to do this, and Wagner has always been an important part of the Seattle defense. The linebacker spent 10 years with the franchise, after he was picked in the second round of the 2012 draft. Wagner has been selected to the Pro Bowl eight times and was a part of the Super Bowl XLVIII winning squad in 2013.
The Seahawks seem to be doing some major team building. Because they released Wagner out of the blue. The release even shocked the linebacker. He tweeted, “Crazy part about all this. I played there for 10 years & I didn’t even hear it from them that I wasn’t coming back.”

Wagner has always been loyal to the franchise, and they didn’t even tell him about the release. The athlete found out about it from Twitter, just like everybody else. Seeing his potential, the Los Angeles Rams wasted no time in getting the fresh free agent. They signed him to a five-year deal worth $65 million.
Russell Wilson tried to recruit Wagner to the Broncos
In a recent interview with Rich Eisen, Bobby Wagner talked about his old teammate, Russell Wilson. He revealed the quarterback tried to recruit him to Denver. Wagner said, “He actually called me a few days before and maybe even a week before and just asked me what my thoughts about going there?” Wagner adds, “And I was like, I don’t have any thoughts, my heart is in Seattle, and I ain’t really went that far. So I knew that it was really close for him to call me and ask me a question like that.”

Even though the linebacker did not join Wilson because of his loyalty to the team, they ended up trading him away. Now Wagner prepares for the next season with the current Super Bowl champions, the Los Angeles Rams.
