Tom Brady has been in the NFL for over two decades. Throughout that time, he has seen a lot of highs and lows. Brady has not always been a top dog, but after being drafted in 2000, he has earned his place in the league. But was he the highest-paid quarterback ten years ago? 

The landscape of the National Football League was completely different a decade ago. The Manning brothers were still dominating the fields. Drew Brees was still throwing the ball for the Saints. Russell Wilson was just drafted by the Seattle Seahawks. And Tom Brady was not yet the player with the most Super Bowl rings.

The GOAT Tom Brady was still a part of the New England Patriots back in 2012. He was only a three-time Super Bowl winner at the moment. Still, Brady was one of the best quarterbacks in the league. The 12-year veteran was in top form. But unfortunately, the Patriots did not make it to the big game that season.

In 2010, Brady signed a four-year contract with New England. He was their number one shot caller until 2014 at least. The deal was worth $7.2 million with a $1.6 million signing bonus. It was a very lucrative deal, and the quarterback was worth every penny. As we all know, Brady aged like fine wine over the years. 

In 2012, the GOAT restructured his contract. It helped the team free up $7.2 million in the salary cap. Brady got his salary reduced from $5.75 million to $950,000. The team took the remaining amount and combined it with a $6 million roster bonus. They gave him a total of $10.8 million signing bonus. The QB just got his salary in a different format. It was never reduced. 

The owner of the New England Patriots was very happy with the decision. Robert Kraft defined the reconstruction as a “win-win all-around.” Kraft said, “I think we’re blessed to have the number one quarterback in the NFL.” He adds, “But let’s also remember that when he restructures his deal, he’s getting a big bundle of cash up-front. But it is helping us create cap room.” It seems like Brady is a team player, no matter what. Whether it’s on the field or in the salary cap, you can always count on Tom Brady. In 2022, he has a base salary of $25 million. That’s a crazy hike.
