Usain Bolt Once Dominated a Mixed Relay Event, Leaving Fellow Competitors in the Dust

Usain Bolt is considered the greatest athlete in the history of track and field. In a glittering career, he managed to break and set several sprinting records. Hence, it is only fair for ‘Lightning Bolt’ to be compared to DC’s Flash.

The legacy of ‘Lightning Bolt’

Currently, Bolt holds two world records in the individual category; completing the 100 meters in 9.58 seconds and 200 meters in 19.19 seconds at the 12th IAAF World Championships in Athletics. In the 200 meters category, he broke his own record, which he set in 2008 with a time of 19.30 seconds, with a time of 19.19 seconds.

The closest a track athlete has ventured to this time is Tyson Gay and Yohan Blake, who jointly hold the record for the second-fastest sprinter with times of 9.69 each.

Not to mention, he also holds the record in 150 meters straight dash during the 2009 BUPA Great City Games. He finished the race in a whopping 14.35 seconds.

Usain Bolt excels in the 4x100m relay

However, Bolt has other lesser-known but incredible feats to add to his list of achievements. Like the time when the Jamaican team, which comprised Usain Bolt, Yohan Blake, Nesta Carter, and Michael Frater, set the record in the 4×100 meters men’s relay with a time of 36.84 seconds at the London 2012 Olympic Games. It was the same team that set the record previously during the 2011 World Championships clocking in at 37.04 seconds.

Mixed relay events have been trending in recent times with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) including the 4×400 meters during the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

At the Nitro Athletics series 2017, Bolt along with Asafa Powell, Jenna Prandini and Jeneba Tarmoh put on a magnificent performance. The spirit exhibited by the Bolt All-Star team during the event was extraordinary.

Powell attained a massive lead during the first leg of the race. Off with an impressive start, Powell passes the baton to Bolt. During the second leg, Bolt helped make this gap wider, passing the baton to Prandini, who maintained this gap outstandingly. Tarmoh undertook the last leg of the race. The team won the race, clocking a time of 40.64 seconds.

The Bolt All-Star dominated the sprint right from the start to the finish line. It was a spectacular event and a fitting display of Lightning Bolt’s final season.
