Matthew McConaughey has made no secrets of his love for wrestling and he could find himself in a huge WWE match in 2023.

The Dallas Buyers Club star has previously teased a future in WWE, and now Kevin Owens has issued a warning while challenging him to a fight at WrestleMania 39 in Hollywood.

After naming McConaughey as his dream celebrity opponent, KO said: ‘If we’re speaking things into existence — WrestleMania 39, come at me McConaughey, I’m gonna f**k you up.’

Wow – that’s fighting talk for sure, even if it was said in good spirits.

Owens admitted he’s a massive fan of the actor, and while he missed out on meeting him when he was backstage at a show, he’s thinking bigger than a quick chat.

Appearing on the WWE After The Bell podcast, KO said: ‘I did interviews before WrestleMania and people were asking me, if there’s a celebrity you would like, who would you — If you could pick a celebrity to have a match with… who would it be?

‘I remember, he’s my favourite actor – a few years ago, Matthew McConaughey came to a show. He was backstage, and I didn’t get to meet him… I remember, not long after that, he talked about how he would love to do something in WWE.

‘To me, I don’t know him at all, but he seems like the kind of guy who would be coming in to do it right and have a blast. People like that, to me, are welcome in our industry anytime.’

Host Corey Graves joked about his show helping talk things into existence, which led to KO making the challenge.

Of course, Kevin is no stranger to manifesting dream matches, having just faced childhood hero ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin in the Hall of Famer’s retirement match – as well as his first in 19 years – at WrestleMania in Dallas.

Reflecting on the moment he found out he was working with the legendary superstar, he exclusively told Metro.co.uk: ‘Vince [McMahon] told me a little while ago.

‘My reaction was quiet jubilation because I was in Vince’s office, but I may have said a few swear words to him – positively! It was really surreal.’
