Cam Newton’s Former Teammate Unloads On Whether QB Has Hit Rock Bottom After Mediocre Run at Carolina
Cam Newton is believed to have lost his spark after a couple of mediocre seasons, first with the New England Patriots and then with the Carolina Panthers. However, will it be justice for him to call it quits after just a few years of productive paralysis?
Newton’s former teammate and former standout tight end of the Carolina Panthers, Greg Olsen says no. He is under the impression that Newton’s productive paralysis was not solely his fault. People are missing several other factors that did not play in his favor.
Greg Olsen believes Cam Newton needs a stable system to thrive
“They brought him [Cam Newton] in and a week later they got rid of Joe Brady and then it was a new system and a new coach,” Olsen said. “And then Sam was playing a little bit and Cam would come in then Cam was back out and then Sam was in and you can’t. It’s just it’s an impossible way to play.”

Olsen believes that Newton’s career is far from being over. The tight end being a former teammate, knows what quality the veteran quarterback brings to the table and how his ethics have played a huge role in his early success. Newton as per Olsen is his own best critic. Since the quarterback knows when he needs to play better.
Furthermore, pointing at the 2021 season Olsen mentioned how Newton brought some light of hope amid huge turmoil with the Panthers. He states how in his very first appearance the previous season, Newton led the Panthers to victory. He threw for one touchdown and ran for another as the Panthers crushed the 8-1 Arizona Cardinals by 34-10.

Although the Panthers and Newton couldn’t carry the same momentum throughout the season, but it just tells how much football is left in the quarterback.
Is Newton done with his career in the NFL?
“The thing about Cam is he’ll be done when he’s ready to be done,” Olsen added. “Like no one works harder. No one’s more vested into it. He has other interests. He has other things but like, he is super passionate and serious about football.”

With that said, it’s highly unlikely that Newton would opt to hang up his cleats. His vision and goal to persevere amid adversity might just prove to be a good fit for a franchise he ends up playing for next season. Yet it remains to be seen which team shows interest in the 2011 No. 1 overall pick.
