Segal was an Academy Award-nominated actor who starred in a number of television shows and movies before appearing on the hit ABC sitcom The Goldbergs.
He was born in Great Neck, New York, and studied at The Actors Studio before appearing on Broadway.

“The family is devastated to announce that this morning George Segal passed away due to complications from bypass surgery,” the statement read.

The final episode that the legendary star was able to film before his passing is set to air on April 7, and a tribute to him is expected.
The Goldbergs’ creator, Adam F. Goldberg, tweeted about Segal’s death.
