Pierre Gasly Twists the Knife in Lewis Hamilton’s Wounds With Comments on Imola GP Battle

Lance Stroll, Alexander Albon, Pierre Gasly, and Lewis Hamilton, in that order. The order in which the DRS train at Imola cruised to the finish line. However, this was a pointless and points-less DRS train as only the leader of the said train Lance Stroll finished at P10. However, one would not assume the seven-time world champion struggling to overtake and finishing at P13. But that was exactly the case at Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.

And if you are to ask Pierre, it “wasn’t too difficult” to hold off Lewis.

Lewis Hamilton and Gasly stuck in a DRS rut

Formula 1 is an incredibly thrilling and competitive competition. But for Pierre, it was not an uneventful race at Imola. The pair of Pierre and Hamilton were stuck behind each other, with no space to overtake. The Brit was stuck behind the Frenchmen for many laps.

Reminiscing on a similar situation at the Monaco Grand Prix, The AlphaTauri man elaborated. “Unfortunately for him he always gets stuck behind me on tracks where it’s incredibly difficult to overtake. But I think I was just as frustrated as he was, you know? For whatever reason, even with DRS, this year was really tough. overtaking here,” said Gasly.

“I wouldn’t say easy, but it wasn’t too difficult,” is how Gasly described the situation, and this was all because of the DRS chain reaction. This DRS mayhem happened because Lewis’s Mercedes was stuck behind Pierre’s AlphaTauri, which was stuck behind Alex Albon‘s Williams. This gave all cars DRS one after the other.

Stuck in the same situation

Even though the following are Gasly’s words, they can sum up the feelings of both him and Hamilton. “So yeah, it wasn’t a particularly exciting race and it was quite frustrating. Even with DRS, we couldn’t try to make a move. We know that when you have a bad qualifying, you make a mistake in qualifying and when you start from the back, it’s always very difficult. I think we paid the price this weekend,” said Gasly.

Neither picked up any points from the race. A frustrating outcome. Something both the teams and drivers alike would want to change before the next race.
