Canelo Alvarez Finally Gets to Take On His Former Promoter Turned Bitter Foe Oscar de la Hoya

Canelo Alvarez has soared into the limelight as he is going to compete in an Icons Series golf tournament against the Golden Boy of boxing, Oscar De La Hoya. Although the two of them are currently at odds, history shows that they have a long-standing animosity that dates back to the days when they were comrades.

Canelo Alvarez and Oscar De La Hoya to be seen competing on a golf course

The two boxers will compete on a golf course against each other. The Icons Series golf tournament has two teams: the USA and the Rest of the World. Oscar De La Hoya will be playing for Team USA, while Canelo Álvarez will be a part of Team Rest Of the World. The Icons Series is a sporting event that brings together some of the world’s most famous athletes to compete in a series of team match play competitions. These are hosted in various locales across the world and each course comprises 10 holes.

Santos Saul Alvarez Barragan of Mexico, better known in the boxing world as ‘Canelo Alvarez’ is the first undisputed super middleweight champion in history. He is known for his tremendous body shots and is considered one of the best fighters of his time.

Bitter Feud Between Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Álvarez

The two biggies are going to face each other again after their feud in 2019. Alvarez’s promoter was Golden Boy Promotions back in the day, but the relationship had its own hurdles and it didn’t last long enough. Alvarez sued Golden Boy Promotions and DAZN as the firms could not fulfill commitments. Therefore, the two professionals parted ways in 2020, and Alvarez has moved to a free agent since then.

Oscar De La Hoya, popularly known as the ‘Golden Boy’ in boxing, is also the golden boy for media. The 49-year-old has won 11 world titles during his prime. Also, he is the first American to win a gold medal in the 1992 Olympics in the lightweight division. Thus, getting the alias ‘Golden Boy of Boxing’.

Formerly having a promoter-boxer relationship, the two will be meeting at Liberty National Golf Club, New Jersey, United States. Will this be a friendly game or a battlefield, only time will tell.
