Lewis Hamilton gives his take on F1 hinting to drop Monaco GP

Formula 1 has been adding new destinations around the world to host Grand Prix races in recent years. As new tracks are being added, older tracks are departing the calendar. After the addition of Las Vegas in the 2023 season, one of the permanent tracks might have to be dropped.

It is being hinted that F1 might drop the iconic Monaco Grand Prix from the calendar in the coming years to accommodate for new races. However, Lewis Hamilton has advised the sport against it.

“It’s one of the crown jewels of our sport. So I’m not really sure it would be great to lose it. There are good bits… I guess that the difficult part is that the racing itself is not that spectacular,” said Hamilton.

“Everyone that goes enjoys it. It is a prime location. Many of us live in Monaco. But it is just that iconic status it has, the history that it has, that is so appealing to drivers but also to those that are watching,” added the Mercedes driver.

Although the sport will be racing in the iconic streets of Monaco this season, it is unclear whether it will continue to be on the calendar in the future. It will indeed be a shame to lose such an iconic track from the calendar. Hopefully, the sport can sign a new contract with the venue and continue to host races in the principality.
