Former football legend Paul Gascoigne was taken to hospital after injuring his shoulder on the Italian version of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! this week, according to reports.

Italian press reported the sportsman was ‘not seriously hurt’ but was tended to by doctors, after he was seen grasping his shoulder during a challenge with other stars on the series.

The Sun reported Gazza was later rushed to a medical centre for X-rays.

It’s said Gazza, who is currently filming series Isola dei Famosi (Island Of The Famous) on the Caribbean island of Honduras – was taking part in a trial minutes into the show in an attempt to earn spaghetti with meatballs when he was injured and seen in pain on the shore.

Apparently, the England, Newcastle and Tottenham hero was tasked with grabbing a ball, scrambling through a ditch and then wading under a cargo net before climbing a platform to score a basketball hoop in hopes of landing the meal.

However it’s said the show’s host Ilary Blasi soon spotted something was wrong mid-challenge and asked: ‘What’s happened to Paul, he looks in trouble?’

Gazza was then seen grimacing as he stood in the sea, holding his shoulder clearly in pain as another star rushed to his aid.

Co-host Massimiliano Rosolino reportedly then told viewers: ‘Paul is with the medics but the initial view is that he is not seriously hurt.’

Italian outlet Leggo also reported Gascoigne was taken off the show temporarily while his shoulder was assessed, with the outcome not officially known.

Isola dei Famosi is currently in its second week, with Gascoigne – best known as Gazza – possibly on the show for up to two months.

He’s already won over viewers with bizarre tales from his heyday – which included bringing an ostrich to a Tottenham Hotspurs game as a wind-up, and stealing a London bus.
