Aaron Rodgers Reacts to Green Bay Packers Denying Him WRs in the First Round of 2022 NFL Draft

It seems the Packers have chosen to continue their 20 years streak of not drafting a wide receiver in the first round. Once again, the franchise surprised fans with its decision by drafting two defensive players in the first round of this year’s NFL draft. The move seemed quite surprising for Aaron Rodgers as well.

On his recent appearance at the Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers broke his silence over various matters including the Davante Adams trade. He was live on the show when the Packers went for defensive players in the first round.

Aaron Rodgers reacts to being denied a wide receiver

With Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling already absent, it was obvious, that the team would go after a significant receiver. But things went the other way round by acquiring two defensive players exhausting two picks in the first round. The team’s general manager, Brian Gutekunst, went for linebacker Quay Walker at No. 22 and defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt at No. 28.

Both the players hail from Georgia with exceptional talents to lead the defense but not necessary for the Packers at this point. The Packers are in need of wide receivers to lead the attack, but the disappointment continues. While Wyatt was drafted, Rodgers was present with McAfee on his show.

The three-time NFL MVP said teams have to exercise caution because there tend to be “a lot of receiver busts in the first round.”

With the top-six receivers off the board, Rodgers hinted that the Packers only had first-round grades on those six. He was reportedly eying the former Alabama receiver Jameson Williams, who is one of the readiest players among the draft prospects.

Unfortunately, the division rival Detroit Lions picked him in the 12th overall. But in the case of Wyatt, Rodgers claimed that he was aware of landing him on the roster. “I’ve had a little insight & I know they like Wyatt,” Rodgers told McAfee on the show. However, the one which he never expected was Davante Adams leaving the franchise.

Rodgers vows to miss the elite receiver on the team

This off-season witnessed some crazy dealings for the receivers in the trade market. Earlier this year, the Green Bay Packers traded Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders for a 2022 first-round and second-round pick. He was signed to a five-year, $141.25 million contract with the team. However, Rodgers said he was “surprised” the first time he heard about the trade.

No one expected the Packers to trade their lethal weapon for some mere draft picks. “It’s a tough business, it’s a wonderful profession. Those of us who have been [able] to play for so long realize that completely,” Rodgers said.

“There’s a lot of things that happen that surprise you, even still. I thought that based on the number that we offered Davante and being able to play with me for a few more years would make a difference, but in the end, I think he was ready to move on and wanted my help in making that happen. It was a tough position to be in, for sure, because I love him and I care about him and I want him to be happy, and he’s going to be missed.” the 38-year-old added to his speech.
