Carolina Panthers Get Absolute Steal at QB With 94th Overall Pick; Who is Going to be Cam Newton and Sam Darnold’s Replacement?

The Carolina Panthers had some major issues with their quarterbacks’ position in recent times. With far too many concerns around the quarterback position and no choices on Day 2, the Carolina Panthers think they have discovered the solution to their difficulties. GM Scott Fitterer made one thing for sure; Before the completion of the 2022 NFL draft, they would have a fresh face as a quarterback.

Panthers had multiple reports which involved Baker Mayfield in recent times. Even on Friday night, the trade talks between the Browns and Carolina for quarterback Baker Mayfield became an absolute fire. The trade was close to beginning. However, this did not persist, and the negotiations came to a halt.

Carolina acquired Corral with the 94th pick overall from the New England Patriots in trade for the 137th pick overall (fourth round). The Patriots also received a 2023 third-round pick.

Do Carolina Panthers see another ‘Cam’ in Matt Corral?

Corral was the fourth quarterback taken in the draft. However, as of now, Matt won’t be forced into the team’s starting rotation straight quickly. According to ESPN, Panthers coach Matt Rhule said he’ll learn from Sam Darnold. He also mentions that Darnold will be the starting quarterback as well.

He mentions, “We’re going to bring him along slow. We’re going to train him from the ground up. He’s got a lot to learn. He’s got a lot to do. But I am unbelievably fired up to get [Ickey Ekwonu] yesterday, to have Matt Corral today.”

Matt Corral has a quick trigger and outstanding athleticism, making him suited for the RPO approach. Although the 6-foot-1 quarterback is smallish, he has a bulldog mindset and goes into the danger to produce plays. Corral has the capacity to overcome pocket press and flee, allowing him to convert prospective losses into gains.
