Jacksonville Jaguars’ Pass Coordinator Makes Shocking Admission Regarding Future of Trevor Lawrence

The Jacksonville Jaguars had an abysmal 2020 season. Finishing 1-15, the side ended as the team with the worst win-loss record in the NFL. But being the worst team in the NFL meant that the side also got their hands on the #1 overall pick for the 2021 NFL Draft. And who did they end up drafting you ask? Quarterback Trevor Lawrence is the answer you’re looking for.

The Clemson Tigers quarterback was touted as the best quarterback prospect in years entering the 2021 NFL Draft. Lawrence burst onto the college football scene as a true freshman back in 2018.

Leading his side to the national title, Trevor Lawrence became the first true freshman QB to lead his side to a national title since 1985. But his exploits didn’t stop there.

The quarterback went on to dominate the college football circuit over the next two seasons. Not losing a single regular-season tie, the hype surrounding him is understandable.

Trevor Lawrence is the sort of draft pick that can turn the fortunes of an NFL franchise around. Touted as a future MVP, big things are expected from Lawrence in the years to come. 

But despite all the hype, it seems that the Jacksonville Jaguars are yet to totally buy-in. 

Trevor Lawrence must work his way to Jaguars QB1 role

Given his skill set and intangibles, Trevor Lawrence is widely expected to be the starter for the Jacksonville Jaguars come Week 1 of the 2021 NFL season. 

But the Jaguars though remain non-committal. In a shocking development, Jaguars pass game coordinator Brian Schottenheimer refused to name Lawrence as their side’s QB1. 

“It’s still too early to say how this thing’s going to play out,” said Schottenheimer as per a tweet by NFL reporter Michael DiRocco.

This development leaves the door wide open for backup QB Gardner Minshew. The 6th round draft pick from 2019 has impressed on occasions. Racking up over 2,000 passing yards and 16 touchdowns in eight games last season, Minshew has shown that he can hold his own whenever called upon.

While it’s only June, the expectation was that Lawrence would’ve been named as the side’s starter for their opening tie last season. Perhaps that news will follow once training camp rolls around. But as things stand, the Jags’ QB1 job is up for grabs.
