Coming to Shapovalov, there were no hints regarding an injury during his final match at the Geneva Open against Casper Ruud. The Canadian nearly defeated Rafael Nadal at the Italian Open a couple of weeks ago.

Aslan Karatsev benefits from Shapovalov’s Roland Garros exit

At the French Open last year, the Canadian defeated the local hero Gilles Simon in four, enthralling sets in the opening match. But, he was defeated by Roberto Carbellas Baena in the second round.

The next-gen player first came to limelight when he defeated Rafael Nadal in the 2017 Canadian Open. Shapovalov created trouble for the Spaniard with his flat, thunderous forehand winners. Coached by former tennis player Mikhail Youzhny, the Canadian has been performing consistently since last year.
