Rather than appearing at a Sony event, the PS5 exclusive Silent Hill 2 remake is getting its own showcase later this week.
If there was any hope that the replacement of Jim Ryan, by two new joint-CEOs, would see Sony become more open and communicative again, it’s already fading, with still no official announcement of a PlayStation preview showcase this month or next.
A showcase has been widely predicted by leakers and interim boss Hiroki Totoki recently talked about learning the ‘long-term vision for Sony Group’ at some time later ‘this month’. But it now seems increasingly likely he was talking about the Corporate Strategy Meeting last week.
It’s Tuesday morning as we write this, so in theory Sony still has time to announce a May showcase but the fact that Konami has just confirmed one for Silent Hill suggests that maybe there’s just not going to be one at all.
There was a PlayStation showcase in May last year but earlier this year Totoki admitted that there would be no major new first party releases from Sony until after March next year – which seemed to leave only the possibility of more minor titles, like the rumoured new Astro Bot game.
They still have plenty of third party exclusives though and already promoted the remake of Silent Hill 2 (and the non-exclusive Metal Gear Solid Delta, which is also from Konami) as part of their 2024 preview reel.
But if Sony was intending to use that as the backbone of their summer showcase that now seems impossible, as Konami is doing their own event on Thursday, May 30 at midnight in the UK.
There’s very little information about what Konami will talk about, just the promise of ‘game updates, a deeper look at the film, and new merch.’
No specific game is mentioned but presumably Silent Hill 2 remake will be the focus, not least because it’s still, as far as anyone knows, supposed to be out this year.

The first Silent Hill Transmission in 2022 featured multiple games, so hopefully we’ll get more info on Silent Hill Townfall, from the makers of Observation, and the very promising looking Silent Hill f.
It’s entirely possible that other new games could also be announced but the first showcase only covered Silent Hill, so it seems unlikely that Metal Gear Solid Delta will be mentioned – even if Sony seems to be making it unnecessarily difficult for Konami to promote it.
